Ten Toes Down For God

In a world where situation-ships dominates over marriage, Christianity is not for the faint of heart. It calls for a different mindset than what we find in this day and age. Christianity is a commitment. A serious relationship with God. It’s a show of strength, it’s wisdom. It’s active war.
Show me a story in the Bible of a God-figure that didn’t GO THROUGH IT before finding breakthrough, their calling or success?
Noah had to build the biggest ark and be ridiculed the whole time. Do you know how big that ark had to be to fit two elephants?! The dedication, the faith and the perseverance that Noah had to have to complete such a task is beyond me!
Moses had to deal with Pharaoh, a highly conceited and egotistically driven ruler of Egypt. The man was so stubborn they went through 8 plagues! After the 1st plague of blood he really should have given in! Moses had to also endure and persevere through a bad situation that moved to a worst situation, to even worser (?) situation.
Don’t get me started on the Israelites. Moses was so annoyed with them he broke the holy tablets that he spent 40 days, FORTY DAYS, 40 days(!!!) creating. He went through so much back and forth with Pharoah to free an ungrateful and rebellious nation just for them not to act right. The Israelites were such an obstacle (read: annoyance) that the lord literally killed off that generation before finishing his mission that he started, FOR THEM!
David was anointed as king and had to struggle for survival daily because the reigning king Saul was extremely bitter! He didn’t even ask to be king and yet there he was fighting the consequences of being chosen! I could elaborate endlessly... the Bible is filled with trials and challenges faced by those obedient and most committed to God's will.
Now brethren don’t let these examples just be stories! They are more than that, they are truths and realities. In Moses’ situation, you and I both know, if it were us that had to endure those tumultuous situations and predicaments just for them to turn around and act the way the Israelites acted we would have packed our stuff and went back to Jethro, the father in law. Expeditiously!
Beyond the fight and the obstacles, I have to mention the heartbreak of leaving the people you were once closest to behind.
Two years before I truly found Jesus my cousin dreamt of me dying. She woke up crying looking for me. At the time I didn’t know it but that was a prophetic dream. God wanted us to know what was to come.
Cousins are usually our first “friend”, she was definitely mine. There was nothing I wouldn’t do for her and vice versa. I died to my flesh 2 years after her having that dream. The person my cousin used to know no longer lives. I have picked up my cross and followed Jesus.
I hear the pain in my family members voice and in my friends when they invite me to do things that are not beneficial to my walk with Christ. No, I don’t want to go to a comedy show, I don’t want to have a birthday party, I don’t want to go to the beach, I don’t want to hear this secular or worldly music. I am more than happy with my walk in the Lord but it hurts me to know that as long as we operate in different worlds they have lost me and I, them.
Insert the story of Joseph, who would be sold to the Ishmaelite's and lose his family because of a calling from God. Moses also would leave the only family he knew.
True christianity is surely not for the weak.
“And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.”
Matthew 19:29 NLT
What all the stories portray is a dedication to Jesus over your own feeling, wants, desires. Noah didn’t care about being ridiculed because He had a relationship with the creator and knew exactly what he was doing. He didn’t wake up and say “I’ll build the ark later”. I can imagine he surely wanted to. Moses stood “ten toes down” for the God of His forefathers, that although clearly fed up with the nation, he continue to journey with them.
It’s not an easy task to follow Jesus. It is truly the hardest thing anyone will ever do with their life.
Christianity is hard because it’s well worth it.
I believe being a Christian is the highest level of honor you can receive in this world.
Originally, we were not called Christians. At first we were referred to as sons and daughters of Christ. Christianity is an intimate relationships with the creator of the universe. The same way knowing the right people get you perks in events or in the club or gets you the best treatment that’s what a deep and genuine relationship with God is like. Every day I see the favor and love of God in my encounter with people. People are always so inviting. They want me around, it makes me giggle because they don’t even know why. They can’t explain the pull they feel. It’s the love of my father in heaven. Christianity is power. In my presence the sick are healed, in my presence people have peace, they are joyful, they feel loved. That’s the power and authority that we carry in Christ Jesus. The more intimate you are with God the more it is seen.
It comes with sacrifice but it is well worth it.
Matthew 22:14 says “Many are called few are chosen.” The context around this popular phrase is many get the invitation. God is inclusive. He invited you to be chosen. He invited the lukewarm Christian. The one that walks past their bible everyday. The one that doesn’t look for His presence and the one that does. He invited them all to be chosen. Only few accepted. Walking past his word on your nightstand and ignoring His voice is you telling God “no”. Those that do that, They choose not to be chosen.
A good example of this in the Bible is Cornelius from Acts 10. He was not apart of God’s chosen nation - he was a gentile, He was not a Jew. However, He believed in the God of Israel and made his household to also worship the Lord. He fasted, he prayed, he gave money to the church. In doing so He made the active decision to be chosen. The Bible says in Acts 10:5(MSG) “Your prayers and neighborly acts have brought you to God’s attention.”
God is not someone who looks outwardly which is what the world holds high. It’s inward - its your heart posture, it’s who you are. If you want to be chosen act chosen. Pick up the Bible, get on your knees to pray, give money to the church, buy clothes for the youth, assist the widowed and elderly and serve your church. All the “stars” they come and they go then they are forgotten but the great men of God they are known forever.
Pick up the call, God wants to choose you.
The Lord wants to change your predicament. He wants to have His own relationship with
you. If you want that as well it starts with the following prayer;
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I need your forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I invite you into my heart and life to be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for your sacrifice, fill me with your Holy Spirit. Amen.
