Many Reasons To Be Thankful
I thank God for the new year!
Grace and mercies be upon you, friend!
I am thankful that the Lord has allowed you and me to see this new year, and if the Lord tarries, we will complete this year glorifying the kingdom by the works of the Father.
You may or may not know, many people are in the hospital right now as I write this blog. The hospitals are overflowing with flu cases along with general cases of cancer, heart problems, fibroids, pneumonia; the lists of sickness continue to go on.
It’s not on our own accord, brethren, that we made it through the year; it is by the many mercies of God. If you wondered it was not you who woke yourself up every morning, it was the most gracious Father. It is not you why you are able to breathe; you barely even understand the anatomy of your own body. No, it was the Lord God in heaven. He breathed life into you. He is the very reason why you woke up whole and not sick. He is the reason why you aren’t in the hospital spending thousands on oxygen. No, you breathe it for free, and your loved ones, they are breathing air for free. We do not own the air and yet we breathe it for free - through the mercy of God.
The mercy of God is great and it endures forever. He is a good God. It truly baffles me that the Bible says, “by His stripes you are healed” (Isaiah 53:5), and yet there they are, the unbeliever and believers alike, lying in a hospital bed sick from pneumonia.
He who has willingly laid down His life for you has also freely given you good health.
It is not in the will of the father that you are hurt or sick in anyway. He has made you whole.
Sick or whole we have many reasons to praise the Lord, let’s never forget that He is a good God. He has thought of all things. He is worthy of praise and thanksgiving at all times.
If you do happen to be in the hospital while reading this, then may the mercy of God touch you and free you from your ailment. Not only mercy but may your faith grow to be free from the afflictions of the enemy. The Lord Jesus defeated your sickness over 2,000 years ago. Through His stripes, you are healed. Amen.
Lesson Learned!
Blessed to see a new year! A new year also coincides with new goals or resolutions.
Last year I struggled with spiritual arrogance. Yes, it’s totally a thing. I didn’t understand why people couldn’t surrender to God. Why was it so hard? I knew God intimately, and so if I preached God to you and you didn’t understand, I moved on. I didn’t have the patience to break it down, nor did I care to because I knew I was saved. When the Lord tells me to release a word and I am obedient then my work is done. Whether the hearer received it or not didn’t concern me, because I knew Jesus. I was obedient. Your salvation was on you.
The problem is, that’s not a good representation of God. We are ambassadors of Christ and my arrogance caused me to misrepresent Him.
I was convicted. Not only was I convicted, my arrogance grew into a monster I could no longer contain, and it hindered my ability to see God. Probably the worst moments of my life, forsaking the Lord.
I battled in my mind about if the Lord was mad at me, did He hate me? Years of righteousness and closeness with the Lord demolished in moments.
That was not true, the Lord did not hate me. In a time like this when my mind was turning against me. It is important then more than ever to read the Word. That’s the only thing that can defeat darkness and negativity.
2 Corinthians 10:5 says, cast down every high minded thought that places itself above the KNOWLEDGE of Christ; What you know about God.
See, God didn’t hate me, that’s what the enemy wanted me to believe. I just had to remember or read the Bible to fight the negative (dark) thought the enemy was throwing in my mind. The Bible states this exact thing in Psalms 118:130 “The entrance of your Word gives light”.
Everything written in the Bible is true. There is no lie found. Even when we sin, He still loves us. (Romans 8:35&39) He still wants us in His presence more than anything. So much so that He DIED for you, He DIED for me. He would rather suffer, persecution, crucifixion, torment, beatings, name-calling, being spat at, mockery, just to be with me. Just so He could spend eternity with me. I fell deeper in love with a God I was already in deep love with. Because now I completely understood the weight of the cross and the perfect and pure heart of a good God. The thing is, He didn’t deserve any of it. He never stole a piece of candy when he was young. He told no fib. He was good - no sin found in him - no darkness, no ill will, no arrogance, no hatred. Just light and love, and not one time did He open His mouth and yell “STOP!”. No, because He knew if He didn’t do this, we wouldn’t be together. Emphasis on BE TOGETHER.
Friend, don’t you see? He didn’t do it because he had to. He didn’t get crucified to keep his position, no! This sacrifice was done just because He wants us to be with Him. He wanted us to be together.
Thank God He did because that is what saved me. His sacrifice purchased me back to himself. That I can have another chance at eternity with the father.
{Side-note: Did you ever notice that the sign of eternity is a loop? In the spirit where time doesn’t exist, everything is true all at once. Which means till this day, Jesus is still being crucified. That, although, is a conversation for another day, for my grown-up Christians, for those on meat. }
This is the part that people forget; The life you live right now is temporary. We have to leave Earth and go home. Our Father awaits our arrival. However, our sin/transgressions can permanently separate us from the Father. What we do right now determines where we go when we die. When we leave Earth.
Everything about the Lord is tender, it’s gentle, packed with love and kindness. There are other sides to Him which give Him the name Consuming Fire, but to you and I, He is gentle. I was harsh, impatient, and I didn’t care about where others would end up because I was covered, and quite frankly, that’s not God. I misrepresented Him. I focused more on my self-preservation than I did about saving the soul of others.
The Resolution
As Lot’s wife looked back, she turned into a pillar of salt. So, me, I will not look back; instead, I will focus on moving forward and the glory that is ahead of me.
No matter your mis-steps in the past year I invite you to move forward with me.
My New Year’s “Resolutions”:
Be more like Jesus.
Spend more time with Jesus.
Yield more to the Holy Spirit.
Being more like Jesus is an intentional act. Being more like him includes, but is not limited to; being quick to listen but slow to speak, giving more than receiving and obtaining and withholding the fruits of the spirit (Gal 5:22-23).
How can I be more like someone I don’t know? Spending time with Jesus is pertinent in obtaining the character of Jesus. You know when couples hang around each other for long periods of time they start to act like one another. It’s the same with Him. Hang around Him, invite Him into your space. When you pray, you are speaking to Him and when you read his Word, He’s speaking to you. Be sure not to have a one sided relationship, balance is everything. Your commitment to this part will directly affect who you are, who you will become.
The more time we spend with the Lord the louder the Holy Spirit is. Holy Spirit is a gentle voice so we have to slow down and be intentional on following the voice of the spirit over the voice of how we feel or our flesh. Yielding to the spirit helps our growth in obedience, righteousness and holiness and will fuel our spiritual encounters.
Obviously, these are not only for the New Year but for the entirety of our life. A journey starts with one step.
Let us pray over our new year.
Pray this aloud with me;
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for a year fulfilled.
A year where I was blessed tremendously. A year full of your mercies and grace. I do not take it for granted. Lord, I do not overlook the work of your hands. I praise you for them. You have seen me and known me and continue to place provisions, protection and favor in places I didn’t know needed them.
I pray that that same grace, mercy and favor be multiplied and will follow me into 2026.
In Joshua 1:5 you said, You will neither fail me nor forsake me. In Psalms 138:8, you said you have perfected all things concerning me. Lord as we enter the new year neither fail nor forsake me and perfect the way forward. Perfect all things that concern me in 2026. I invite you to remove all hinderances spiritually and physically that keep me from your glory, that keep me from fulfilling my divine destiny. Every obstacle of the enemy whether internal or external father remove it, Have mercy and remove it that I may see your whole hand at work in my life and the life of those surrounding me. Thank you Lord for as I have said it you have honored it. Thank you Lord for you have done it not because of my righteousness but because of yours, because of your mercies you have heard me and honored me. Thank you, mighty Lord. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
No matter how far a long in your walk with the Lord or maybe you are just beginning, may this prayer and new year resolution truly and deeply bless you.
The first step in your relationship with God is confessing that He lived and died for you to have an abundant and eternal life. If you would like to start your walk with Him, say the following prayer with all your heart out loud;
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I need your forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I invite you into my heart and life to be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for your sacrifice, fill me with your Holy Spirit. Amen.
